Hey Everyone,

A local team from where I live got kicked out of a tournament in Las Vegas on Presidents Day Weekend. They entered a 14u division, but brought a few overage players under fake perfect game profiles. After they got caught, they said the tournament director said it was ok to use overage players. I don’t think this is a believable story. What is everyone’s take on this situation?

My son was hoping to play for them next year and my other son after that, but now their reputation is not good. I just want to know if this is ever ok, whether allegedly agreed to by the tournament coordinator with a wink wink, or not.

Thanks

It is never ok to use overage players. The age levels are created for a reason, to try to keep play as fair as possible. Also, at 14U, it starts to get into that next level, high school. Their thinking might be that the kids will encounter older kids soon, and this will just get them ready.

But, at the end of the day, teams should never cheat. No excuse for that.
